University Freshmen's Problem Drinking: Its Individual- and Family-Level Factors

Background: University students have been known as having a higher rate of problem drinking than the general population in South Korea. In particular, university freshmen may experience from increased occasions frequent social gatherings at first school year they time to freely use compared high days. Problem among be influenced by multiple factors. The present study aimed examine prevalence and identify individualand family-level factors associated with freshmen's drinking.Methods: A cross-sectional, correlation was conducted. Participants were 227 (70 men 157 women) under parenting mother father 10 universities Seoul. evaluated using Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test. Abstinence Self-Efficacy Scale Parental Authority Questionnaire for behaviors used.Results: 58.6% freshmen. An individual-level factor alcohol abstinence self-efficacy significantly (odds ratio, 0.94; 95% confidence interval, 0.91-0.96) However, any including types not drinking.Conclusions: strong protective against drinking. University-based programs should comprise nursing strategies enhancement year.
